Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to explain the different occupancy classifications in a place of assembly; calculate the occupant load in each area; locate specific code sections that provide requirements; understand the interrelationships between occupancy, number of occupants, and common path of travel to determine the means of egress. Students will be able to apply the code requirements to create a safe and code-compliant means of egress system.

The Building & Fire Code Academy is an Illinois State Board of Education approved private business and vocational school. Offering continuing education classes and complete career programs for inspectors, code officials and design professionals at all experience levels, BFCA is an International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) authorized provider and an American Institute of Architects/Continuing Education System (AIA/CES) registered provider. Students completing the course receive 0.6 continuing education units, contact hours, and/or state credit where applicable. Architects completing classes earn 6 learning units. All courses qualify for health, safety, and welfare credit.
